Pre/Post Natal Osteopathy & Paediatric Osteopathy

My experience has taught my the value of osteopathy as a whole system of healthcare for patients of all ages. I am passionate about using osteopathy to maximize the health and development of each member of the family, especially children. Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine (I treat using my hands) which aims to correct imbalances in the structure of the body in order to improve the way it works. It is founded on the understanding that the body has an intrinsic tendency towards self-healing and self-regulation. By using osteopathy to correct strains within tissues, osteopaths are enabling the body to maintain a better state of health. I believe that health is much more than the absence of disease and ease within the structure of the body is essential for physical and emotional wellbeing.

I am an osteopath who has undergone significant training in paediatric osteopathy, cranial osteopathy and osteopathy for mothers during pregnancy and after birth. My training and skills mean that, whilst I am proficient in osteopathic techniques which involve massage and manipulation, I am am also expert in treating patients of any age using a gentle therapeutic approach.

Together with my husband, I co-manage a purpose-built easily accessible osteopathic clinic in Nunhead, treating patients of all ages. I am also the Consultant-in-Charge at the Osteopathic Centre for Children’s Shoreditch clinic. As an expert in the field of paediatric/perinatal osteopathy and cranial osteopathic techniques, I teach postgraduate osteopaths in the UK and abroad.

Treatment would take place in Nunhead. Hospital visits (with the consent of the relevant Consultant) can be arranged on request.

SERVICES
An osteopathic consultation includes a full case history, examination and diagnosis prior to treatment. I allow approximately an hour for this appointment so that a thorough assessment can be made. Any follow-up appointments usually take approximately 30 minutes.

Osteopathy during pregnancy
Pregnancy involves significant postural change and depending on the mother’s history of injuries and previous musculoskeletal dysfunction these changes can create episodes of pain/discomfort. Osteopathy proves a safe and effective non-pharmaceutical solution to pain and can support the ongoing postural changes of pregnancy to enable optimum postural balance leading up to the birth.

Postpartum osteopathy
The effort and physical effects of birth together with the demands of early infant care mean that mothers often benefit from treatment to restore balance and encourage the process of recovery after delivery. I offer postpartum check-ups to mothers alongside treatment of their babies in order to optimize health of both mother and baby after birth.

Osteopathy for infants and children
Parents bring babies and children to see me for a diverse range of issues and I receive many referrals from other healthcare professional such as GPs, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, midwives, lactation consultants, paediatric dentists and health visitors. Osteopaths do not treat ‘conditions’ but aim to get the body working as well as it can by addressing any mechanical issues that may be compromising it. Each stage of childhood, from birth to adolescence, brings its own physical challenges. Osteopathy is a gentle manual approach which is suitable for children of all ages, including babies.

As a paediatric osteopath, I have received specialist training in diagnosis, examination and the use of gentle techniques, suitable for young patients. This expertise enables me to safely treat even the most fragile babies, including those born prematurely. I have experience using osteopathy to treat children in a hospital setting, including babies in Neonatal Intensive Care and Special Care Baby Units.

When treating older children I often provide advice and treatment related to posture, injuries, musculoskeletal pain and general health.
